The Government led Energy Company Obligation Scheme (ECO)

helps families on low incomes and in receipt of government benefits to reduce their energy bills. If you meet the criteria you could be entitled to a free grant towards a new Boiler, Insulation, or first time Central Heating in your home.

All big energy companies such as British Gas, E.ON, Scottish Power, EDF, and Npower are required by the government to help you save money on your heating if you meet the scheme’s criteria.

The amount of grant

will depend on the property type you hold and the number of bedrooms, and the amount of fuel being used to warm your house. Not in all cases or property will qualify completely free boiler but there might be some contribution towards the boiler from the customer. This might warry from property to property and based on property survey.

The Affordable Warmth Obligation is known as the Home Heat Cost Reduction Obligation (HHCRO).  Helping the vulnerable reduce their fuel consumption, providing free boiler replacement and insulation grants to all qualifying private homeowners in England, Scotland and Wales. HHCRO decreases fuel poverty amongst vulnerable and low-income households by allowing heat to be generated as cost effectively as possible and is suppressed from escaping from the home.

The free boiler scheme is an initiative created to reduce the UK’s energy intake by offering grants for boilers to homes across England, Scotland and Wales.  It provides grants to vulnerable homes in order to help them improve the energy savings of their homes.

Check to see If you have a Gas, Oil, or LPG boiler that is over 7 years old and you also meet the benefits criteria then you will be able to apply for a free boiler grant.

In 2012, the UK parliament approved the Energy Company Obligation (ECO). With the total budget increasing to £1.3 billion this year, the scheme is funded by the largest UK utility companies.

Energy Company Obligation (ECO) is made up of 3 obligations, Affordable Warmth, Carbon Saving Community Obligation and The Carbon Saving Obligation.  Funding for the boiler scheme 2020 is part of the Affordable Warmth Obligation.   Eligible based Benefits.

Affordable Warmth Obligation (HHCRO)

This is known as the Home Heat Cost Reduction Obligation, this obligation provides free boiler and insulation grants to private homeowners and tenants who receive certain means-tested benefits. It aims to decrease fuel poverty amongst most low-income households by ensuring that heat is generated as efficiently as possible and is prevented from escaping from the home.
